Samyang/Rokinon has announced the brand new lens for 8k video. The XP 50mm F1.2 lens for Canon EF Mount has officially arrived.
This is the third lens in the XP lineup, the first two that were first announced in 2016 were the 85mm 1.2 and the 14mm 2.4 which are hailed for their ecellent performance. But thats only when trying to resolve images that are 50 megapixels or above and can easily capture crisp 8K video.
Like the other lenses, the 50mm 1.2 is a manual focus only lens which for video is great and for those wanting autofocus features for pictures taking will have to rely on their cameras focus peaking feature (if it has it). So far this model is only available for the Canon EF mount and it has a 9 blade aperture and the lenses are disposed in a 8 groups with 11 elements, this includes one aspherical and a highly refractive lens which should deliver super sharp images to the cameras sensor by fine tuning the light path going through the glass of the lens.
Samyang also included an ultra multi coating to help avoid avoid flare and ghosting as much as possible.
The Samyang XP 50mm F1.2 will be available for purchase in March, A retail price of 950 Euro (and very likely the same price in USD) should be expected for this lens.
